I had five days to roam around parts of Belgium. By far the most interesting part was a tour of the center of Ghent, thanks to the parents of a Belgian friend of mine. Most people know this is a beer-lover's paradise because of the variety and quality of the brews. Here's what's left of a nice dark brew, a Leffe Brune, which cost about $3.00 for half a liter in the Bauhaus bar.
There are a lot of places to see in Gent on foot or by boat, and it helped greatly to have my hosts put them into historical or personal context. Having living guidebooks is the best way to start to appreciate a place. This shot is from the Gravensteen or Castle of the Counts overlooking Sint Veerplein (a plaza).
