Guadalupe River Park, San Jose, California
Latitude 37.346 Longitutde -121.909
Tomorrow the Guadalupe River Park which runs through San Jose will be officially open. Some volunteers have been working toward this goal for twenty years. The river parallels a busy and noisy parkway, but parts of the new park are very quiet and serene, especially the area away from downtown. Most of the development is centered on making a nice, controlled river walk for people in town.
I took a bike ride on the parts of the trail that were opened, and there is much work to do before it is completed. There are detours away from the river because no easement has been obtained or the paths are unfinished. Unlike the famous walk in San Antonio there are no restaurants, bars, or other commercial buildings very close to the walkway. The rivers and adjacent paths will have to be the destination for a while.
