The Club of Rome first attracted attention with the gloomy 1972 report on the Limits to Growth. The organization is made up of intellectuals, former heads of state, and concerned citizens to discuss and address a number of pressing global problems: the environment, development, new technologies, education, and the world economic order--among others. There are national chapters in Europe and the Americas. Working with UNESCO the Club of Rome is organizing a three day (May 11-13) conference in Paris on capacity building using information and communication technology "including satellite" they emphasize. The program is a mix of experts, intermediaries, and grass-roots workers who will undoubtedliy highlight their success stories as well as some of the problems faced. Dr. Raoul Weiler, one of the lead speakers at the April 21 conference, is co-president planning this conference.
